NMSA is a public/private partnership comprised of the New Mexico School for the Arts, a state charter high school, and the School for the Arts – NM, a nonprofit arts educational institution. The New Mexico School for the Arts and the School for the Arts – NM have agreed to affiliate, collaborate and coordinate their governance, administration and curriculum in order to give New Mexico students who demonstrate exceptional promise, aptitude and passion for the arts the opportunity to excel in the arts while earning a New Mexico high school diploma.
New Mexico School for the Arts, Governing Board
The New Mexico School for the Arts is a state charter high school. It will operate in accordance with the New Mexico Charter Schools Act and its charter issued by the New Mexico State Public Education Commission. The Governing Board of the New Mexico School for the Arts is responsible for its operations and has the power to carry out its educational mission. School for the Arts – NM, Board of Trustees
The School for the Arts – NM is a nonprofit arts educational institution. It will operate in accordance with the purposes set forth in its Articles of Incorporation and the New Mexico Nonprofit Corporation Act. The Board of Trustees of the School for the Arts – NM is responsible for its operations and has the power to carry out its educational mission. The Board of Trustees of the School for the Arts – NM include among its members, the members of the Governing Board of the New Mexico School for the Arts. Founding Committee
The New Mexico School for the Arts’ Founding Committee is made up of five members:
Julia Barnes, planning year coordinator;
JD Bullington, a lobbyist with Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber and Schrek law firm;
Catherine Oppenheimer, founding artistic director of the National Dance Institute of New Mexico;
Garrett Thornburg, the Chairman of Thornburg Investment Management, Inc., and the Chairman of the Thornburg Charitable Foundation; and
Sherry Thompson, the Executive Director of the Thaw Charitable Trust.
