Attend The School

Thank you for your interest in the New Mexico School for the Arts. If you are a passionate artist and want the opportunity to study your art form each day while you also go to school, then NMSA just might be the place for you!

NMSA students will include the musical prodigy who needs access to advanced instruction or the visual artist whose art class is no longer providing challenge. Teachers and parents across New Mexico report that high school youth with outstanding artistic gifts are not being served. NMSA will provide these students with a place to go and encourage them to pursue their passion with excellence.

NMSA will admit students based on promise, aptitude and enthusiasm for the arts and will be tuition free.  NMSA follows 31 states with over 75 public art schools. Students at these schools consistently outperform their peers in academic testing by 29 -33%. New Mexico School for the Arts will open its doors in September 2010.

Residential students will pay for residential costs on a sliding-scale fee based on family income and financial aid will be available for both residential and art supply fees. Students shall be considered for admission without regard to geography or their ability to pay residential or supply fees.

Parents and students will be encouraged to support the school by purchasing supplies when financially able, giving time as volunteers, being community ambassadors, attending artistic events, participating in fund raising activities and giving financial contributions through our non-profit arts education institution: School For the Arts – New Mexico.

If you are a student interested in applying to attend for the 2011-2012 school year, application forms will be available September 1, 2010. More information on the application and audition process can be found at our How To Apply page.
