New Mexico School for the Arts is dedicated to outreach programming and excited about collaborating with art communities around the state. The Charter School and Art Institute are guided by legislation in Senate Bill 34 which reads as follows:
“The school shall conduct outreach activities throughout the state to acquaint potential students with the programs offered by the school. The outreach activities shall include programs for middle school students and workshops for teachers. There shall be no admissions criteria established for participants in outreach activities…”
NMSA plans to expand its outreach programming as staffing and funding allows through various activities including master classes, teacher training workshops, summer programs, and community performances. If you are interested in having a program come to your school, district, or community, please contact Katy Phebus at (505) 310-4194 or KPhebus@NMSchoolForTheArts.org
Outreach Overview
The New Mexico School for the Arts outreach program will offer opportunities for talented students to stretch the boundaries of their experience in two formats — the Master Class and the Summer Intensive.
Master Classes provide intermediate to advanced students with a one-day experience in arts mastery education from renowned professional artists. Middle and high school students with significant interest in one of four art disciplines — dance, music, theater, or visual arts — will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge.
Summer Intensives provide middle school students with the opportunity to work with a master artist / educator for a more in-depth exploration of their chosen art form. Students will strive to perfect techniques, acquire new skills, and gain a deeper appreciation for art.
For students hoping to one day attend the New Mexico School for the Arts, Master Classes and Intensives will present them with an introduction to the type of educational experience that will be offered.
