Thanks for your interest in auditioning to attend the New Mexico School for the Arts! NMSA is open to students throughout New Mexico who qualify through a blind, competitive audition and portfolio admissions process held every February. Students can audition in up to two of the five major departments, including Visual Arts, Creative Writing & Literature, Music (Vocal, Jazz or Instrumental), Theatre, and Dance.
After successfully submitting an application and letter of recommendation during the open application period from September 1 through February 5, students are notified by email of the day and time of their individual audition/portfolio review and interview and provided with further information and instructions. Auditions are generally held in late February in Santa Fe. (Please email the Office of Admissions if you wish to apply for assistance with travel costs.)
Students are chosen to attend NMSA based on their passion, aptitude and promise. These are evaluated through their audition and interview by a selection committee that includes arts department faculty and a panel of professional artists.
The audition process varies by department, and audition requirements are outlined below. It is the student’s responsibility to research and meet all requirements and present prepared work. NMSA offers an annual Audition Workshop that helps students prepare.
