Students at New Mexico School for the Arts are getting the opportunity to “move it” this semester!

Adam McKinney, who runs the Dance Department at NMSA – a statewide public high school offering academic and mastery arts education – has collaborated with community instructors in dance & martial arts to offer a weekly dance lesson. From 8:15am until 9:00am each Wednesday, students, faculty, and staff can head to NMSA’s gymnasium, known as the Large Rehearsal Hall, for forty-five minutes of dance and movement.iltmimi_2

Titled “I Like to Move It, Move It”, the series of classes is an initiative McKinney hopes will motivate the NMSA community to start the day with a dose of physical and collaborative activity.

McKinney says, “Our weekly session gives the NMSA community access to a fun, collaborative way to get moving and to get energized in the morning, while simultaneously providing opportunities for non-dance students to break out of their respective arts disciplines and cross creative boundaries. ‘I Like to Move It, Move It’ celebrates a variety of forms of movement, dance and martial arts, including Hip Hop Dance, Salsa Rueda dance and Capoeira!”

Stay tuned!
