New Mexico School for the Arts Offers Free Dance Performances at Water History Park and Museum

(September 30, 2014) Santa Fe, New Mexico – The New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) Dance Department announces that it will present the premiere of SHED, a piece choreographed and performed by NMSA dancers, in October, as part of its annual Inside/Out series. The four performances of SHED are free to the public, and will take place on October 11th (4:00PM & 5:30PM) and October 12th (4:00PM & 5:30PM) at Water History Park and Museum, at 1209 Upper Canyon Road. Tickets are limited, and may be obtained at www.nmschoolforthearts.org.

SHED was created by 26 NMSA dance students. The piece explores our communities’ multicultural histories and their links to the privatization of water, a precious yet often controversial resource in New Mexico. Through choreographic and historical research, NMSA dancers have shaped a work that uses the Water History Park and Museum to frame and interpret the conflicting community and corporate perspectives surrounding the issues of water use in this region.

SHED marks NMSA’s third annual Inside/Out public offering. Inside/Out is an exciting, community-centered series of site-specific performances staged in Santa Fe’s shared spaces. These performances connect student artists with the public and with our vibrant communities in innovative ways.

The NMSA Dance Department looks forward to welcoming the public and community members to these performances of SHED in October.

NMSA is now accepting applications for school year 2015-2016. The application cycle closes in mid-January, and information on admission policies and the application process can be found on its web site, www.NMSchoolForTheArts.org.
