New Mexico School for the Arts Takes Inspiration on the Road

November 19, 2013, SANTA FE – Students and faculty from the Music and Theater Departments of New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) are hitting the road on November 20th to bring superb choral singing and inspirational dramatic pieces to Alamosa Elementary School, Harrison Middle School, Bernalillo Middle School and Santo Domingo Middle School.

Enriched art programming is in short supply at many schools in the I-25 corridor – for this reason our students, many from these same areas, are particularly happy to share the experience and purpose they have found at NMSA, and to encourage other youngsters to pursue their artistic dreams. The beautiful voices of the NMSA Choir have received statewide recognition and have been named the New Mexico 2013 State Choir.  The Theater Department will be presenting a piece written for specifically for this outreach tour that showcases a young man’s from Northern New Mexico determination can overcome seemingly overwhelming obstacles.

NMSA provides access to a rigorous mastery arts and academic high school education for youth with passion and aptitude for the arts, leading to post-secondary learning, careers in the arts, and lives that contribute to society. NMSA’s purpose is to provide the highest standards of excellence in preparing New Mexico’s artistically talented students to compete nationally for places at post-secondary education institutions and/or professional careers in the arts.

NMSA serves all three Congressional districts of New Mexico. This outreach tour, paid for by private contributions, was developed by faculty and students and is part of the school’s commitment to reaching out across the state and expanding access to enriched art programming in areas where such programming is scarce, while raising awareness of the opportunities that NMSA offers to New Mexico’s passionate young artists.
