New Mexico School for the Arts Visual Arts Department presents: “Line + Dine”

Opening Reception:  Thursday, March 20, 5:00-7:00 pm

Exhibition on view through April 14, 2014

Location:  Warehouse 21, “Flying Cow Gallery”, 1614 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM

(March 12, 2014) Santa Fe, NM – New Mexico School for the Arts is pleased to present an exhibition of artwork by the 9th grade Visual Arts students.  These eighteen young people range from 14 to 16 years old. They come from communities as diverse as Albuquerque, Española, Las Vegas, Villanueva, and Santa Fe.

The exhibition will highlight their recent work in Drawing and 3D Design.

Line + Dine will feature the installation of a banquet table surrounded by chair-forms.  Taking inspiration from Christo & Jeanne Claude’s work, each chair has undergone a structural intervention, whose form is made visible by an applied fabric skin.

The banquet table will also feature charcoal drawings of food—12” diameter, round, and crafted in classic chiaroscuro style.

Additional drawing and design projects may also be included.

NMSA’s freshman visual arts curriculum emphasizes a rigorous grounding in visual fundamentals for the ultimate purpose of free exploration. This goal is approached through skill and vocabulary building, coupled with creative play.  During their first year at NMSA, 9th graders learn the elements and principles of 2D- and 3D-design, and they work intensively on drawing skills and journal/sketchbook use. The program is supplemented with guest and visiting artists throughout the school year.

Participating artists include:  Juliana Chavez, Maggie Culver-Hagins, Jaren DuBois, Devon Ewy, Nina Fenzl, Hans Fauenglass, Kilian Galdamez, Malia Gascon, Ezri Horne, Erin Ice-Johnson, Adan Juarez, Jade Lomeli, Araceli Lopez-Binder, True Overlie, Alicia Stewart, Daisy Trudell-Mills, Merit Willey.
