In 2019, NMSA was designated one of the top 11 schools in New Mexico by US NEWS & World Report.
In 2018, NMSA was recognized as one of the top schools in the country by Newsweek, which specifically cited NMSA for its success in closing the achievement gap.
In 2014 and 2016, NMSA received the designation “Exemplary School” by Arts School Network (ASN), the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools.
In March 2015, NMSA was given full accreditation by AdvancED, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of Pre K-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential.

Historically, NMSA has served students from 68 communities and Pueblos. Currently, students hail from 39 communities and Pueblos from all 3 New Mexico Congressional districts.

In 2016, NMSA was designated by the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School, one of the nation’s highest honors in education for its success in closing the achievement gap.
