Dance & Music Department Present: Strings + Song + Dance

Date & Time:  Friday, December 6th, 5:30 pm

Location: St. Francis Auditorium, 107 W Palace Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87501

Description: This event is a vibrant celebration of collaboration, marking the second occasion that these departments come together in this space to showcase the exceptional talent of our young artists. Audiences will be treated to the inspiring sounds of our String Orchestra and Choir, beautifully complemented by original works from the Dance Department.

Theatre Department Presents: “Puffs”

Visual Arts Department Presents: Visual Arts Holiday Art Fair Sale
Discover Young Talent! Local, affordable & original art!

Date & Time:

Thursday, December 12th, 5-6 pm
Friday, December 13th, 5-6 pm
Saturday, December 14th, 10 am-2 pm

Location: NMSA’s Thaw Visual Arts Gallery, 500 Montezuma Ave.

Description: A wide range of visual artworks will be for sale by students in the Visual Art Department. Students receive 50% of all sales; the remaining 50% benefits the New Mexico School for the Arts Visual Art Department supply budget.

Creative Writing & Literature Department Presents: Poinsettia Poetry Slam

Date & Time: Friday, December 13th, 6-8 pm

Location: NMSA, Zane Bennett Gathering Space, 500 Montezuma

Description: Get ready for an electrifying evening at NMSA’s third annual Poetry Slam! Join us as our back-to-back champion, Sofia Salazar, defends her crown in a fierce competition open to all students, who have auditioned for a chance to perform. This is more than just poetry—it’s an interactive event where writers, performers, judges, and the audience all play a role in who wins. Expect clapping, snapping, stomping, and maybe even some playful booing as students go head-to-head, delivering powerful and inspiring original works in a thrilling display of creativity and passion. It’s going to be a fun, energetic night of slam poetry.

Musical Theater Class Presents: Head Over Heels: The Musical

Date & Time:  Thursday, May 1st, 7:00  pm, Friday, May 2nd, 7:00 pm, Saturday, May 3rd 2:00pm & 7:00pm

Description: A hilarious, exuberant celebration of love, Head Over Heels, follows the escapades of a royal family on an outrageous journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction—only to discover the key to their realm’s survival lies within each of their own hearts. This laugh-out-loud love story is set to the music of the iconic 1980s all-female rock band the Go-Go’s, including the hit songs, “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” and “Mad About You.”

Visual Arts Department Presents: Junior Envision Exhibition 

Date & Time: Friday, March 14, 5:00- 6:30 pm

Location:  Thaw Visual Arts Gallery NMSA, 500 Montezuma Ave. 87501

Description: 

Each Spring semester, our Junior Visual Artists embark on new personal projects, with teacher and peer guidance, to develop a series of self-expressive pieces featured in this collective class exhibition.  Students research artists and themes of their choosing as they merge personally meaningful concepts and media.  As a group, they learn to install the exhibition with instructor support and develop pre-professional visual arts skills along the way.

 

The Junior exhibition is an example of one of VA’s many intentional skills scaffolding experiences.  “Envision” supports students by developing their ability to research and build a personal body of work in preparation for their Senior Thesis Exhibition and eases them into the challenge of balancing creative freedom and responsibility to a deadline

Creative Writing & Literature and
Visual Arts Departments Present:
Convergence II

Date & Time:  Friday, January 31st, 5:00 – 7:00 pm

Location: Thaw Visual Arts Gallery NMSA, 500 Montezuma Ave. 87501

Description: 

This exhibition and accompanying catalog, “Convergence II”, brings together select artwork created by Visual Arts Department students and poems crafted in response to these artworks by NMSA’s Creative Writing & Literature Department. Poetry and visual artwork are experienced as a call and response in the catalog, arranged in pairs according to inspiration and collaboration. 

“Convergence” celebrates the inspiration inherent in our creative community at New Mexico School for the Arts and supported by our generous partners at RiskPress Foundation:  Charlie Pendergast and Kevin Connor.  RiskPress’ offer to sponsor and produce the publication spurred a semester-long collaborative project uniting our two art departments in this second iteration of the “Convergence” publication.  We are so grateful for their energy and encouragement!

Description: Please join us for a chilling tale of hysteria, power, and betrayal. The Crucible brings Arthur Miller’s timeless classic to life in a gripping new production directed by NMSA theatre chair, Barbara Hatch. Set in Salem in 1692, the play follows John Proctor as he fights to save his name and those he loves from a society consumed by fear and accusations of witchcraft. As paranoia spreads and justice bends to the will of the powerful, the lines between truth and lies blur, forcing the town to confront its darkest impulses.

Description: New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) and Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) invite our community to join us for a free production of an American theater classic, “The Crucible” at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the NNMC Nick Salazar Center for the Arts.

More than 30 NMSA theatre students—24 actors and a dedicated crew of 8 behind the scenes—bring Arthur Miller’s story to life in a bold, unforgettable production directed by NMSA’s Theatre Chair, Barbara Hatch.
