Composer and Choreographer Meredith Monk to visit NMSA Dance Department

September 10, 2014, SANTA FE – Groundbreaking composer and choreographer Meredith Monk will visit and work with the Dance Department of the New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) on September 23, 2014, as NMSA dance students prepare to perform one of her arrangements in January and February 2015. Her visit comes as part of NMSA’s Guest Artist Program.

The opportunity to both work with Monk – first on the 23rd, and again in January 2015 – and perform her choreography next year is a monumental one, and eagerly anticipated by students and staff. Dance Department Chair Adam McKinney and the NMSA Dance instructors work each year to expose dance students to exciting and innovative choreographers and productions like Monk, as well as opportunities to perform their own creations.

A recent appointee of the 2014-2015 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair at Carnegie Hall, Monk has built a career exploring, producing, and promoting interdisciplinary performance through an array of groundbreaking works. Monk’s work has been presented by BAM, Lincoln Center Festival, Houston Grand Opera, London’s Barbican Centre, and other major venues around the world.

The Guest Artist Program of NMSA annually brings exceptional opportunities for students to work with and learn from artists like Meredith Monk.
