Student Spotlight
Chelbie Alvarado, a senior, has been named a YoungArts winner for their creative nonfiction piece, “Mother’s Touch Heals Most Wounds.” This prestigious national award reflects Chelbie’s incredible talent, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Event Recaps
Poinsettia Poetry Slam (December 13)
The 3rd Annual Slam featured 16 students from various departments competing across three electrifying rounds in front of 80 attendees.  Senior Maiya Brock took home the Slam Champ title. 

Sun Pulse Poets Visit (December 16)
Touring poets from LA led a workshop and open mic for students, sharing creative inspiration and guidance.

Library Refresh (December)
The Estelle Yates Media Center was reimagined as the Estelle Yates Reading Center. Students and TAs revamped the space with new decorations and holiday cheer.

Christmas Tree Donation (December)
Senior Tien Furgason-Ho organized a fundraiser to buy and donate a Christmas tree for the department, raising over $70.

Experimentation Week Craft Day (December 17)
During Finals Week, students explored fiber arts, clay, painting, and scrapbooking, followed by a gallery trip to write ekphrastic poetry.

Faculty News
The department warmly welcomes Daniel Rodriguez, our new Creative Nonfiction teacher. A writer, actor, and filmmaker from Miami, Florida, Daniel brings a wealth of talent and experience, including accolades for his short film and an opening talk at the Braniff Conference.
