HeARTbeats: Opening Day Ceremony

 Welcome back, everyone!

Yesterday we had a fabulous opening day ceremony to mark the beginning of another great school year. We were thrilled to see the faces of both new and returning students, hailing from communities as far north as Taos and as far south as Roswell.  Senior Maggie King opened the ceremony with a stunning rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner,” performed on violin, and Junior Hugo Pizano closed with a reading of the NMSA Honor Pledge.

During the ceremony we were honored to have Governor Susana Martinez as our speaker!  She touched on the excitement of the begining of the school year, seeing old friends again, and, of course, launching into a new year of learning. ““I encourage you to work hard, because the education you are receiving here at this amazing institution can set you up for a lifetime of success, something that no one can take from you,” she said. “I promise you that you will accomplish absolutely anything you set your mind to, but remember: always dream big… because this is a school that gives you that ability.”

“Thank you to all the people here who dedicate their time to make sure that every single student in this school has a feeling of excellence in their soul — you cannot take that away…Thank you for the work you do to help shape the minds of our future artistic leaders.”

We’re thrilled to see our students back at NMSA!  Here’s to a fantastic 2015-16 school year!!
