HeARTbeats: Upcoming Events

Don’t miss these upcoming events!

September 20 – Blind Spot

In partnership with the AHA Festival of Progressive Arts, the Dance Department will perform this year’s site-specific performance entitled BLIND SPOT, part of its annual Inside/Out series.  Don’t miss this collaboratively choreographed production, exploring the history of cars, truths and secrets, and underground cultures! Performances will be held in the Santa Fe Railyard underground parking garage at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm on Sunday, September 20.   Inside/Out is a series of site-specific performances staged in Santa Fe’s communal spaces that connect student artists with our vibrant communities in innovative and public ways.

September 24 & 25 – Luted Crucible Firing Days

JOIN US for our second year of exploring the ancient technique of Luted Crucible bronze casting with guest artist Piers Watson! NMSA Visual Arts students are working with local professional sculptors (like Bob Haozous, pictured right) to create objects that will be cast using this traditional, wood-fired technique.
The firing itself will take place all day Thursday, September 24 and Friday, September 25 in our far north parking lot. Please email Emily Wolf (ewolf@nmschoolforthearts.org) if you’d like to attend!

Thursday, October 8 – Saturday, October 10 (7:00pm) – RUMORS

Join NMSA’s Theater Department for Neil Simon’s “Rumors” (Directed by Joey Chavez and Deborah Potter)! Performances will be held at New Mexico School for the Arts in the Large Rehearsal Hall.

At the large, tastefully appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken and wife Chris must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

Saturday’s performance will be accompanied by a Dessert Night Theater Fundraiser! More information can be found closer to the date: www.nmschoolforthearts.org. Tickets can be purchased here.

Axle Contemporary will host an opening exhibition of all student and artist sculptures at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe on October 9, 2015(5:00pm-7:00pm). Finished work will be on display and can be seen throughout town – and throughout the state – from the October 9 through November 1, in Axle’s “art gallery on wheels,” an innovative installation space housed in the back of a custom retrofitted 1970 aluminum stepvan.
