New Mexico School for the Arts Presents: ARTSPRING 2015 — Year-End Student Performance and Celebration

(April 28, 2015) Santa Fe, NM – New Mexico School for the Arts is excited to announce its upcoming annual year-end student performance and celebration on May 21 and 22, celebrating their students’ passion for the arts! The event will feature both a Visual Arts exhibition at the Santa Fe Community Gallery and an exuberant night of dance, music, and theater onstage the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

A wide array of artistic works will be performed by NMSA’s phenomenally talented theater, dance, instrumental, and vocal students. Students will collaborate interdepartmentally to bring such classical works to life as Brahms’ Cappriocio Op. 76, No. 1 (featuring music and dance students); a Puccini Aria from Gianni Schicchi; a theater, dance and music collaborative performance of several selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet; and more! Contemporary audience favorites such as Steven Sondheim’s “Putting it Together” and “I Sing the Body Electric” from Fame will also be performed.

NMSA Art Department Chairs Adam McKinney (dance), Joey Chavez (theater), and Neil Swapp (music) have worked together with Artistic Director Lorenzo Medrano to build a show celebrating the joy NMSA students take in creating and developing their art forms.

Visual Arts Department Chair Cristina Gonzalez will work with her students to share with community members the work they have completed this year, including a mural at Warehouse 21 and students’ individual artwork. A pop-up exhibition at the ArtSpring Gala in the Eldorado Hotel will also be featured.

Shows will be held May 21 and May 22. NMSA’s May 22 show will be followed by a Gala at the beautiful Eldorado Hotel, with a bountiful Spanish feast, specialty drinks, and lively Latin music and dancing with Son Como Son. All proceeds benefit NMSA’s art and residential scholarship programs.
