NM School for the Arts Hosts Open House for Prospective Students

(November 17, 2014) SANTA FE — On December 6, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, New Mexico School for the Arts will hold an Open House event for prospective students to the school. Current 8th, 9th, and 10th graders who are interested in learning more about NMSA are encouraged to attend, as well as all current applicants. The event will be held at New Mexico School for the Arts, 275 E. Alameda Street in Santa Fe. NMSA provides access to a rigorous mastery arts and academic high school education for youth with passion and aptitude in the arts, leading to post-secondary learning, careers in the arts, and lives that contribute to society. It is a public/private partnership comprised of the NMSA-Art Institute, a nonprofit art educational institution, and NMSA-Charter School, a New Mexico state charter high school. NMSA is a public high school and admission is via lined auditions in any one of the four disciplines of dance, music, theater, and visual arts.

During the first hour of the open house, prospective students will be given an overview of the school, presented by Director Riis Gonzales and Head of School Cindy Montoya.  Art Department chairs will also talk about the curriculum in their specific area in an informational forum.  NMSA’s Residential Director Stephanie Wilton will present about NMSA’s residential program.

During the event’s second hour, students will attend a seminar for the department they have applied to or are interested in applying to, where they will receive information about what is expected for audition.  Examples and tutorials will be given. Students will have the opportunity to apply to NMSA right after the event.

NMSA was a recipient of the national Arts Schools Network Exemplary School Designation at their annual conference in Denver earlier this year, and has been graded an “A” school for the third year in a row from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
