(July 10, 2012) Santa Fe, New Mexico – New Mexico School for the Arts faculty, staff, students and parents are excited by the news that NMSA, a statewide charter high school and art institute located in Santa Fe has received an A as its final grade for the 2011-2012 school year from the New Mexico Public Education Department.

In the Current Standing category on the School Grade Report Card, NMSA received an A, scoring over 13 points higher than the statewide average for how students performed in the most recent school year. NMSA’s first senior class graduated on June 2, 2012, which is why the school was not graded in the Graduation or College and Career Readiness categories. The 27 students from NMSA’s first graduating class were accepted, and awarded scholarships and financial assistance to, over 34 colleges and universities throughout the country. In both the School Growth of Highest Performing and Lowest Performing Students categories, NMSA received a B in comparison to the statewide C grade. NMSA Principal Cindy Montoya stated on Monday, “We are very proud of the work done by NMSA’s students, faculty, and staff and we will continue to strive to maintain our A grade in the future.” In the last category on the NMPED Report Card NMSA received 3 out of 5 bonus points for providing exceptional encouragement for involving students and parents in education, as compared to the statewide 1.6 points.

As the statewide arts charter school prepares for the 2012-2013 school year, NMSA continues the search for a permanent campus to house our academic, arts and residential programs in order to facilitate future growth. A permanent campus will insure that NMSA can provide rigorous mastery arts and academic education to students from throughout New Mexico for generations to come.
