Student Performances Of Dance, Music, Theater, And Displays Of Visual Arts Oct. 5

Moving Arts is co-sponsoring the free performance, which will feature all four of NMSA’s artistic focuses: dance, music, theater, and visual arts. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch students perform and learn about the arts-focused public high school, which accepts students from across New Mexico. NMSA also will perform school shows during the day for students throughout the Española area.

MAE works collaboratively with NMSA to prepare aspiring students for pre professional tracks in the performing and visual arts. More than 25 students from the Española Valley have auditioned for and been accepted into NMSA programs.

NMSA Freshman Kierra Holmes of Chimayo decided when she was very young girl that she wanted to attend an arts school. Kierra shared that when she opened her NMSA acceptance letter she cried. “I Love it here it is my dream come true.” Holmes started studying at age 8 and worked diligently with her dance through Moving Arts and the National Dance Institute (NDI). She considers Salvador Ruiz Esquivel and Roger Montoya to be her guiding forces to achieve her accomplishments in dance. Her goal is to receive a business and dance degree so that she can open a dance school. She plans to share her talents and provide opportunities for future dance students.

NMSA freshman Than Povi Martinez of San Ildelfonso has studied dance at Dance Los Alamos, Moving Arts and NDI. Her goal is to dance professionally in one of the top dance companies. “I am so excited to be studying at NMSA.” Her inspiration is Maria Tallchief, the first Native American Ballet Dancer. Martinez considers Roger Montoya as the mentor who pushed her to recognize her potential in dance. Martinez has danced often in the North Central region and is thrilled every time she is asked to dance at the San Ildefonso Pueblo Feast Day Dances.
