Alumnus Ty Mott Returns to Unveil “Crossroads” Sculpture, a Gift from the Class of 2018

On October 21, we welcomed Visual Arts alumnus Ty Mott (Class of 2016) back to campus for the long-awaited unveiling of his abstract bronze sculpture, “Crossroads”—a beautiful gift from the Class of 2018. Though delayed by COVID, Crossroads now stands proudly in its permanent location, symbolizing the paths and connections forged at NMSA. The unveiling ceremony featured a heartfelt message from Ty and reflections from his former teachers.

Ty’s former visual arts instructor, Karina Hean, had this to say during the touching ceremony: “These kinds of continued connections with alumni are a teacher’s dream come true; to stay in good communication, to develop new projects, to support the exchange of inspiration and ideas with current NMSA students, and to be helpful in fostering and celebrating the careers of our graduates in any way we can.”

Our Head of School, Eric Crites, added “This sculpture represents an artistic achievement and a connection between our past, present, and future. Ty’s work is a testament to the power of arts education and our alumni’s extraordinary impact on the world. Thank you, Ty.”

We’re grateful to Ty, the Class of 2018, and all who made this inspiring addition possible!
